Not sure how much the source code will help. I mean, if he was being dishonest, he could just cut out the "bad" part of the code and hand you the rest.

I missed this point earlier (or you just edited it in).

Basically I take the source and compile it. I get an md5 sum from the executable I compiled, and compare it to the md5 sum of the executable he's distributing. If they're not the same then he fudged the code before he gave it to me.

Heh, my completely informal and unprofessional programming background is showing. I have no idea what the "md5" is, but I imagine it's something like the "CRC" that a utility for Oblivion that I use uses to make sure you're using a legit version of the game.

He responded, btw.

That's exactly what it's like. Actually, after talking to my employer's security director, it seems that CRC is a bit better than md5.

If the program could also be used to modify B.Net gameplay, please don't talk about it here. See the first two items in section 3 of the forum rules, as well as this post.

Since they cannot be used on B.net, yes.

You're allowed to mess with single player. Just don't touch B.net, or even use something for Single Player that could be used on B.net.

Care to explain how a Cylic Redundancy Check is better than the MD5 hash? Or atleast post what someone told you?

*taps into his security training that has not been used in years

That was more than a year ago, so I don't remember exactly. Something about less likelihood of incidental collisions, IIRC.
