I don't know anyone that uses this as "For The Win"

Everyone I know just uses it in the exact same context as wtf. ftw is wtf, only in a much more incredulous "OMG" sense.

I believe the generally accepted definition for FTW is "For The Win". Or are you used to using the biker definition?

I have no familiarity with this "for the win" business.

From Urbandictionary definition #7

I don't think it's an intentional spelling error - it's FTW. Christ. I've -never- seen it used as "for the win" ever. This is just wrong. So a disproportionate number of idiots on urbandictionary think it's "for the win" - big deal. I'm right :067: :rules:

Quote

Originatiton: WTF, "l33tsp33k".
/phrase(question)/
FTW: Intentional spelling error of the word wtf to emphasise confusion and bewildredness.
(WTF: See wtf)

(1) ei.
as a statement,"ftw." ;
also in a sentence, "What? A headshot!FTW!"

(2) ei.
as a phrase, "Chuck Norris, ftw."
as an adjective, "My new graphics card definitly is ftw."

(3) (see wtf)

"RIP" = "Rest in Peace" = gear with the "Slain Monsters Rest in Peace" mod. It's the mod that prevents monsters from creating usable corpses when they die. Notably used to deny Nihlathak the chance to instakill you via Corpse Explosion.

The only sources of RIP are Nature's Peace, Tyrael's Might, and the Lawbringer runeword. Tyrael's is laughably rare and Lawbringer is underwhelming for most builds, making Nature's Peace the runaway favorite source of RIP.

Script means see the description - click on the game and look in the pane to the right of the list to see what they're offering/looking for.

HR means High Rune, that is Ist (sometimes), Vex, Ohm, Lo, Sur, Ber, Jah, Cham, and Zod. Due to massive duping, "HRs" are massively more common than they should be (statistically), to the point where at least 99.9% of HRs must be dupes to account for the difference in value compared to their relative rarity. Since they are used in popular overpowered Runewords, they are highly sought after, and since they only take a single inventory slot, they function well-ish (if you ignore the fact that dupers control it) as a currency.

However, because this forum is targetted at players who wish to play the game without cheating, trading of HRs on this site is not allowed, and moreover mentioning use of HRs without appropriate disclaimers as to how they were obtained may lead to warnings or bans.

It means "Unidentified". Refers to items.

I thought that might be what it was. I've seen a lot of unid items on trade forums, mainly annis (I think). Is there some sort of advantage to having a unid item for trade that I am unaware of?

You can get them much more cheaply than a very good one. It's basically gambling - you pay a bit above average price for it, hoping that you'll get a much above average roll.
